Leading in Finance Research and Education
The faculty of the Finance Area within the Costello College of Business at George Mason University have leading academic research contributions in the areas of financial markets, real estate, fintech, and more.
The finance area faculty also collaborates with Costello College of Business students on research projects that reach a wide practitioner audience through the CFA institute, the Wall Street Journal, and other prominent finance professional outlets.
Finance area faculty come from diverse backgrounds. Prior to joining Mason, finance area faculty have worked in large finance institutions such as Goldman Sachs and Fannie Mae or with government agencies such as the SEC and the Federal Reserve Board.
The finance area supervises Mason's Montano Student Managed Investment Fund and the Financial Planning and Wealth Management Advisory Board.
George Mason University is an Affiliated University with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute. The university has earned this designation because a significant portion of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK)—including the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct—is embedded into the curricula of our various finance programs. The CBOK represents the core knowledge, skills, and abilities (competencies) generally accepted and applied by investment professionals globally. Being an Affiliated University signals to students and employers that our curricula are closely tied to the practice of investment management. The finance area is also affiliated with the Washington Association of Money Managers (WAMM), giving students free access to all of the group's events
